GLOSTER SCHÖPFT DEN BEGEHRTEN RED DOT DESIGN AWARD AB

30/03/2008

GLOSTER WINS FOR A SECOND YEAR IN A ROW

30/03/2010

With its outstanding and innovative design, the Axis collection by Gloster Furniture managed to impress the jury of one of the most prestigious international design competitions. In the “red dot award: product design 2010” Axis was awarded the “red dot” quality label for high design quality by the jury consisting of top-class experts.

Stunning lines and sharp looks are the key features of Gloster’s new Axis Range. Upon closer inspection, a simple, visually lightweight frame becomes a complex and unique union of asymmetric angles. Designed by London based designer, Mark Gabbertas, Axis' solid teak sled style frame and stylish angles are echoed throughout the line. Broad, horizontal slatted seats combine with gently curving slatted backs to ensure comfort, while optional cushions offer further indulgence.

“Axis represents a new design aesthetic for outdoor teak furniture, but also meets the specific and extreme constructional demands of this typology, including the ability to be flat packed” describes Mark Gabbertas. “The design of the lead item, the dining chair, is based on a trapezoid, and this slender frame section is achievable as the result of the natural strength of this structure. This is balanced by the considered use of generous solid teak sections for the back and seat, which convey comfort, strength, solidarity and quality”.

Together with the other award-winning products, Axis will be on display from 6 July to 1 August 2010 in the exhibition “Design on stage – winners red dot award: product design 2010” at the red dot design museum on the premises of the ‘Zeche Zollverein’ World Cultural Heritage Site in Essen. After that it will be presented in the red dot design museum’s permanent exhibition for at least one year. With approximately 1,500 products on more than 4,000 square metres, the red dot design museum houses the largest permanent exhibition of contemporary design worldwide.

This is the second year in a row that Gloster has won a red dot award as last year we were awarded an ‘Honourable Mention’ in the 2009 Product Design category for our Elan collection.
