But our commitment to sustainability goes beyond the wood itself. It extends to the people who create our high-quality furniture. Because Gloster owns and operates our production facilities in Indonesia and the United States, we are able to uphold ethical employment practices and equitable working conditions at every stage of production. By investing in skilled artisans and safe work environments, we preserve premier production techniques while creating meaningful livelihoods for our team members. This commitment is reflected in our receiving a Zero Accident Award for seven consecutive years at our Indonesian facility.

Transparency and accountability are central to our approach. Gloster’s commitment to responsible forestry is recognized through annual joint verification by the Indonesian government and EU authorities via the FLEGT license. This certification ensures that all timber is legally harvested and that our operations adhere to stringent standards for forest management, environmental impact, labor rights, and community benefits.

Both our Surabaya, Indonesia, and South Boston, Virginia, facilities have also been graded as “Leaders” by the MindClick Sustainability Assessment Program, a rigorous evaluation used by Marriott International to measure environmental and social impact throughout a product’s lifecycle. This distinction reflects:

Larger waste materials generated during production in Indonesia are managed by BUMDes, a village-owned and operated organization. The revenue generated from these efforts is reinvested into community initiatives that make a tangible difference, including:

• Supporting early-childhood education programs

• Strengthening local organizations

• Improving infrastructure
  

Across the United States, Gloster employees also actively support local causes that reflect our values of environmental responsibility and social welfare.

At the end of 2024, our U.S. headquarters in South Boston, Virginia, adopted a highway located just outside our facility. Twice per year, our team gathers to clean the roadside and remove litter from our shared environment. These efforts were formally recognized in July of this year when Gloster received a sustainability gift from Keep Virginia Beautiful. Additionally, in October 2024, the team at Gloster South Boston collected donations to support relief efforts following Hurricane Helene in Tennessee and North Carolina, helping provide essentials to families rebuilding their lives. The following month, the Gloster team at DCOTA in Florida hosted a Thanksgiving food drive, with all donations benefiting Broward Pantry, a local organization assisting families in need. Together, these initiatives show how Gloster’s teams consistently take meaningful action to support local environments and communities.
