Stainless Steel
Stainless steel encompasses various steel types valued for corrosion resistance. The defining characteristic across all variants is a minimum chromium content of 10.5%.
Manufacturing Process
Gloster uses 304-grade stainless steel with an electro-polished brushed finish. Electro-polishing is widely used in the electronics, food and medical industries — and on maritime components. The electrochemical process uses electrical current and strong acid to remove surface material atom-by-atom, eliminating iron while preserving chromium for improved corrosion resistance and appearance.
Finishing
Before leaving the factory, welds are ground flush and the surface receives Scotchbrite polishing, typically along leg or rail directions, creating a smooth, resistant surface that is easy to clean and maintain.
Maintenance
Even electro-polished stainless steel furniture requires ongoing maintenance when exposed permanently outdoors. Salt water and airborne chemicals may cause small brown spots to appear, particularly in coastal areas. These surface discolourations are purely cosmetic and do not compromise structural integrity or durability.
