The New Rules of Outdoor Design with Gloster at High Point Fall Market 2026
At High Point Fall Market, Gloster’s new 2027 collections were on display in our 313 Space showroom, offering another early look at the designs to come. Adding to the excitement, Gloster joined DEDON, Loll Designs, and Sunbrella for a panel discussion exploring The New Rules of Outdoor Design. Bringing together perspectives on materials, craftsmanship, comfort, and sustainability, the conversation examined how outdoor spaces are evolving, what designers should consider when selecting furniture built to last, and more.

Representing Gloster, Katie Stamaris, Vice President of Marketing & Residential Sales, shared insights into the details that distinguish well-crafted and well-designed outdoor furniture, from the quality of the materials to the techniques behind its design and construction.
When asked what designers should look for when selecting outdoor furniture, Katie explained, “Many outdoor furniture products can look similar when they are on the showroom floor, but the way the pieces perform over time is vastly different. These are important things to be educated on.”
The difference lies in the quality of the materials and the craftsmanship behind each piece. Gloster’s approach begins with teak trees grown for 35 to 50 years, allowing the wood to develop the oil content and density that contribute to its strength and stability. The teak is then kiln-dried over approximately four months to help minimize movement and cracking as the furniture responds to changing outdoor conditions. Thoughtful construction techniques, including wood-to-wood joinery, as Katie noted, further support the longevity of each piece.
Beyond durability, Katie also highlighted how expectations for outdoor spaces continue to evolve. She emphasized the growing desire to bring the same diversity of materials and finishes found indoors to outdoor settings, combining performance with the layered comfort and considered aesthetic of interior furnishings.
The discussion also explored timeless design and the value of investing in furniture that can adapt to changing spaces and tastes.
“Gloster has a really strong basis in architectural, grounded design,” Katie shared. “Timeless is something that can live with you, move with you, that can take on different environments and stand on its own.”
This perspective reflects Gloster’s approach to creating outdoor furniture with clean lines and long-term appeal, allowing each piece to adapt to different settings and evolve alongside the people who enjoy it.

Throughout the conversation, one idea remained central: lasting outdoor design depends on more than appearance alone. Material quality, considered construction, and a clear understanding of how people use their spaces all contribute to furniture that can be enjoyed for generations.
We appreciated the opportunity to share the thinking behind our approach to outdoor furniture and exchange perspectives with fellow industry leaders on the future of outdoor living.
